Fishing Reports
Welcome to the 2011 season!
The spring season was a great hit to start the 2011 season. Most of our trips came back with limits of some very nice size rockfish. The tournament weekend provided some great action as we were throwing as many big fish back as we kept. We finally were able to find a big one on Sunday that gave us 5th place that day with one a little over 37 pounds.
With the end of the trophy season, we started to change our rigs and prepare for the smaller school rockfish moving in, but the big ones continued to linger into the beginning of June. We are still catching a stray 30-plus incher mixed in with the smaller ones. It has been non-stop action so far in June as we have been finding large schools of rockfish, often seeing between 15 and 30 caught in just hours.
The black drum moved up in late May/early June and many were caught during the last few weekends, but they seem to have moved on pretty quickly as we have not seen any sign of them the past two weekends.
Bottom fishing has been slowly picking up. Two weeks ago, we caught over 35 croaker one evening, but it seems to have slowed this past week. We are hoping that this is only temporary and the evening croaker bite will become hot and heavy in the coming weeks. Some spot have been caught up in the Choptank, but we really haven't seen any fish of size, especially for live-lining. So we will likely continue to troll for another few weeks (especially considering how great the catch has been) hoping that the larger spot will arrive very soon.
We have plenty of dates available for the last few weeks in June and through July. We are really seeing a slow-down in business lately as it appears to be affecting our industry especially hard this year, likely due to the economy more than anything. As such, for the remaining portion of June and into July, if you mention that you saw this on the website, I will take $50 off any trip booked during this period! So come on out and enjoy some great fishing that is occurring as we speak. We look forward to taking you out for a great day on the Bay.
We hope that you will join us this season and help make this a wonderful year to remember on the Salty Dawg! We will do our best to keep you posted as the season progresses.
